Arlene Gottfried has published four books that have focused mostly on the characters who inhabit New York’s many and varied neighborhoods. Her work has been informed by her own life, growing up in Coney Island and moving to Crown Heights, as well as discovering her passion for singing gospel music. Her latest book, ‘Mommie,’ (powerHouse Books, 2015) turns inward and examines her own family resulting in a decades-long portrait of the lives of three women experiencing the cascading effects of ordinary life and the passage of time.
